Eh, it was okay.

I don't often not finish books, only after 100 pages if still I don't care what happens.

I fell in love with it!

The first time I read this book I was a bit disappointed. I was expecting another Ender's Game, therefore I found it slow and a bit boring. The second time I read it, I took more time to think about what I was reading, and I loved it. Yes, this book was completely different than Ender's Game, but not in a bad way. There is a lot of symbolism there if you take the time to see it. And I loved the story. Granted it's not action packed or even action anything, but I really found it interesting.

Card masterfully combines magic and history in an alternate version of early American history. Of course, American history includes Native Americans, who so far have only been mentioned. And naturally, Christianity plays a significant role as well.

At first, I was afraid that Christianity would become too dominant, but Card uses it to create moral tension. The fanatical priest and his battle against magic frustrated me, which proves how well Card crafts his antagonists. Especially Thrower, with his unwavering faith and arrogance, is a character I would love to see taken down or fail miserably. He gets under my skin, I really don't like him.

I love this book, even though I can't quite explain why. Maybe it's the way Card brings his world to life or the strong emotions it evokes. Or maybe I'm just biased and always enjoy his books.

Read a long time ago. Need to re-read the part about tying a knot under the table to dispel the spirit of evil chaos dampening

OSC fans may love this. It's fantasy, but fantasy with American settlers. I found it really tedious, but I know others who loved it.
