I read this in a group of fellow femmes of Central American, South American & Caribbean heritage and it was a lovely experience. Some passages were tough to get through since I could relate a lot to Prisca’s life stories. I liked how she wrote in rhythm and patterns so it felt like poetry was weaved into the stories as well. I appreciated her direct and hard truths she told with a fair amount of context. So much love to my fellow brown girls with soft edges and tender hearts ♥️💅👑

A great book. Had a lot of academic language for me so took me some time to read but I liked it. Experienced a lot of what she said in academia. It kinda reads like an essay but also not if that makes sense. Glad I read her book.

This book spoke to me in more ways than one. As a first Gen Brazilian American, sometimes venting about my struggles to people who weren’t born under similar circumstances can be challenging. This felt like I was being seen for the first time in a long time. Of course, the author’s story and others are not all the same when it comes to colorism, racism and discrimination but I felt as if this was the book an older sister would give me whenever I needed comforting. To all my Latina / Latinx sisters (cis, trans and non-binary) this book is for all of us 🤎❤️
