This book should really be talked about more. It's so good! This is a great example of how a book can talk about very important and relevant topics (racism, micro-aggressions, police brutality) without having a super dry narrative. I absolutely loved the characters and writing. This book really allows you to see the perspective of life as a young, Black girl in America.

I absolutely loved this. Jade is a wonderful character and I didn’t want to put this down once I got into it.

Read for work (sixth grade seminar) maybe the best book I’ve read on navigating life at private PWI as scholarship student of color, really good arc on self advocacy

Loved this book. It's very eye opening to see Jades point of view being the mentee in an "at risk" program. This book shows that not everyone need's fixing regardless of how much society may thing so. This book is needed though I do wish it was a bit longer! I would have loved to hear more of Jade's story.

wow this book was so thoughtful and gorgeous. i think some YA authors miss the mark when it comes to writing teenage characters and things can become over dramatized (albeit still fun to read), but this felt very authentic and real, especially in the moments that were more mundane. jade is such a lovable character and had me weeping through the last few chapters
