"My Darling From The Lions" is a collection of poems that explores the themes of identity, love, sexuality, shame and culture. Each poem stands alone as a powerful story for the reader to consume and that's where I think the strength lies with this particular collection. The mood is melancholic and contemplative, making one consider the overall messages that are being delivered with each piece. I am personally not a fan of this particular style of poetry, however, the writing is strong and the collection overall is a solid read. I recommend this to those who prefer a sense of realism and storytelling in poems rather than focusing on the fluff of imagery and symbolism.

I honestly don't know how to rate this poetry collection. I personally did not get like half the poems; however, I did enjoy the writing style. This collection was not for me, nor was this particularly aimed at me I feel. I must have enjoyed it enough though because I devoured it in one sitting!!

I don’t think poetry is for me, and that’s fine
