Totally interesting and insane way to tell a story about depression and addiction and coming out on the other side. There were whole chapters of this one where my jaw was on the floor.

4 stars? I really don't know how I feel about this. It felt like a slow motion train wreck. It was sad but in a really detached way. I'm not sure that I liked anybody in the whole book?
A strange meditation on grief, privilege, art.

I have mixed feelings about this book... at the start I thought it was really interesting, I was invested in getting to know the narrator and understanding what was going through her mind, but throughout the book everything started to feel extremely monotonous, she would just talk about the same things over and over, and I understand that's how it's supoosed to be, it goes with the character's lethargic behavior, it just wasn't for me.
The writing was great, beautiful even. descriptive but not too much. The pacing was a little weird, it felt dragged out for most parts but then it ended too quickly...
As much as I hate to admit, I relate a lot to the narrator, but although Ottessa Moshfegh did a great job portraying depression and the feeling of being tired of everything and everyone, I still think it was very romanticized in a way of "oh but everyone goes through this, and that's ok! look, it's fine to completely withdraw from the world and take a shit ton of drugs to sleep for a whole year!", but at this point I know that most books dealing with mental health issues have this romanticized streak, so guess I won't be too critical about this.
The ending was great, so I'll give the credits
