So, some of the writing in this is a bit gawky at times, but Chris Gethard's stories are so unique and funny that it doesn't matter when, on occasion, he clumsily repeats the same turn of phrase within a paragraph. I'm hoping for more stories in the future (but if I have to take them in podcast format, that's perfectly fine too).

Much better than most comedian books I’ve read. Weird, funny, sad stories.

I'm pretty fortunate that I found this book, having heard part of it on the 'This American Life' about the Nemesis. These vignettes from Gethard's life are full of raw honesty but never feel indulgent, and full of self-awareness. I feel like I can relate to him way more than I should. So maybe other people that can't relate to outsiders, nerds, and creative types wouldn't get as much as I didn't, but I'm definitely a fan of this book. Very entertaining!

This author is hilarious. The things that happen to him, the decisions he willingly makes, are funny in themselves but his delivery in text makes this a tremendous book. Each chapter is a short story, some from his childhood, others from college and so on. They are long enough to grab you, but not too long that you end up eager for it to be over. Some of these situations are truly sad, depressing, embarrassing, etc. but again, the writer applies a humorous spin.

I found reading this great in the mornings over some coffee to get my day started with a laugh; and some perspective. While most of this is comedy, serious issues are woven in and I feel that really makes this book the total package.

Highly recommend. You will laugh out loud. You will laugh so hard that you cry.

An empathetic, honest, and funny book. One of the most poignant passages mentioned how there are no enemies, only people more miserable than you. Love that.

My gal gave me her copy of this book to read not too long after we started dating, I kept starting it but never commiting to reading it. I finally pushed myself to really start this book and it was so good. It's been a while since a book has made me laugh out loud, some of these stories are just that funny (see the story of his colon cleanse, volunteering to go to a "scared straight" trip, and "Koozo" to list a few). Honestly I want to give this book 5 stars, but it's hanging out at a 4.5 because I wish the final essay had been a bit stronger.
