Painful to get through..spoilers ahead
So this book was just bad. I’ll say one of the worst books I’ve read on kindle and I read a lot.
Cons:
-A brave girl who just believes and listens to women she met 2 seconds before.. keep in mind this is the same girl who fought everyone
- the story is rushed and unexplained. Millla knows nothing.
- she falls in love not once but twice so like 75% of the story is her whining about who she can or can’t have.
- one man she loves “eats people” and no one seems to care or know what he is like yeah ok...
- she has a dragon who doesn’t talk (maybe just me but I read a lot of dragon books and I am use to a bond and at least mental conversation. You won’t get that here)
- we spent the ENTIRE book waiting for her to get revenge on the main villain in the story just to NOT get vengeance like that irritated my soul
- she goes from never having killed a soul to just an outright killer
Pros:
- good storyline just terrible execution.
- fight scenes were decently written
I finished the book out of curiosity thinking it would get better but nope. Won’t be reading the next one sorry!

A story of love, the harsh truth of betrayal, and the rocky road to vengeance. Amillia, your not so typical Princess is strong willed, spicy and can kick some major butt. Couple that with the poor decisions she makes and her raging hormones and we have ourselves a loose cannon. I loved her character because of those things, she was real and anything but the typical heroine that sits up on a pedestal brushing her hair waiting to be rescued, she was relatable. Driven from her home by the worse kind of betrayal, family betrayal, our royal spiceness finds herself homeless and amongst the common folk. Her only trust worthy companion being Artan, a wonderful animal that adds a soothing effect to not only Amillia but to the reader as well. With pure anger surging through her veins and multiplying by the minute she is determined to get to the root of what happened to her home, only her journey reveals truths she wasn't quite prepared for. Her mission sends her on a spiraling quest that leaves her wanting only one thing: BLOOD. Not just any blood but the blood of those responsible. The suspense teeters on the brink as she savagely makes her way to the worst of them hoping to instill a fear in him leaving him only one thought; her wrath is coming for him. Don't be fooled into thinking that our dear princess is all alone, in fact there are two hunky men, Maddox and Greyson, just waiting to be her helping hand, in more ways than one. Even if confusing her heart of cold is the majority of what they manage they still try to help. Two comical characters, and by far my favorite, Katy and Mani the wacky witches offer us a breath of fresh air amongst the chaos. They become guides of sort and direct her to what she wants to be doing most...getting bloody.

First can I say how beautiful this cover is? I absolutely love it. It is one of those covers that I don't even care what the book is about I want to read it. Beautiful.
Unfortunately Vengeance started off well, but quickly devolved into kind of a mess for me. It did straighten itself out somewhat by the end, enough that I was considering getting the next book to see what happens, but I just don't know that I can read another one in this series.
This is the story of Amilia and her revenge only that concept didn't really work with this story. I never felt like Amilia was this bad ass assassin like she was supposed to be. I never felt like she was really just ruled by her vengeance. She just came across as this whiny annoying weak little girl. The whole thing with Maddox got to be sooooo tedious to read. It was just like dude, have some self respect. How many times does this one guy have to turn you down and tell you he will never ever ever be with you before you give up on him? And then you add in Grayson and it just made me angry. Way to lead Grayson on when you really are still hung up on Maddox. That is not fair and not nice.
Amilia was always being told what to do growing up and so she was always acting out. She wanted to do whatever she wanted and not have dictate her life for her. Fine, but at some point you have to grow up and stop throwing temper tantrums. Maybe after your father dies and your family is in trouble that would be a good time to stop acting like you two, but no, not Amilia. She will continue being a brat right up to the end of the book. Her whole poor me, Maddox doesn't love me like I love him every two seconds annoyed me. Just get over it! This is supposed to be this girl who is this awesome assassin, not mopey whiney, poor me girl who throws temper tantrums all the time. I just really didn't care for her character at all. She was not strong and brave and heroic. She was stupid and weak and lame.
My other issue with the story? The writing. I kept getting confused as to what was going on. For example Amalia has this locket necklace that helps her. In one scene she throws the necklace away, or it is taken from her or whatever, but then two paragraphs later she is looking in the locket. I was just like wait...I thought you didn't have the necklace? Apparently she only lost the chain, not the locket, but the way it was written I never would have known that. If you say you got rid of the necklace I would take that to mean the locket and everything. There were a lot of times like that where I was just like wait....I thought x happened? Oh, I guess it was just that only part of that happened and it just wasn't clear. It was hard to read for me.
Also you spend a good chunk of time not knowing what is really going on. Amilia kind of asks for answers, but when she doesn't get them it is like no big deal. As a reader I can appreciate the slow reveal, but the way this was set up didn't work for me. It was confusing and I was constantly like what is happening? And not in a good way. You don't know what is really going on for a good chunk of the book and then all of a sudden most things are revealed. I did not like the way it played out.
So this book was just kind of a mess for me. I didn't care for the writing, I didn't care for the main character, it just wasn't for me. Apparently a lot of people did not have the same issues I did, but unfortunately it just didn't work for me.

Vengeance is a story with a good premise but bad execution.
Amillia or Millia is a terrible lead character who is selfish and irritating. She did not deserve the adoration she received from Maddox, Grayson or any one else.
The story is very back and forth and was not very coherent as stories go.
A disappointing read.

My good friend recommended this book as we usually have similar tastes, but I'm afraid we differed in opinion.
The book started off very promising with an interesting main character, a pet dragon, and a family betrayal. However, it went downhill from there. The plot had so many odd twists and turns that did not make any sense and three different love interests that I couldn't keep track of who she liked best. There was simply too much going on that it started not making any sense. The main character who started off as bad ass started annoying me with her fickleness.
Unfortunately, I don't think I'll be checking out the second installment.
