Book Review - Isaac Bell #8 The Assassin by Clive Cussler

Another book in the Isaac Bell series, this was the 4th book I finished in 2020.

Private detective Isaac Bell is back and investigating an oil company monopoly when an assassin begins murdering oil executives.

This is another fantastic book. I have been reading all of these books in about 5 days each.

The 8th book in the Isaac Bell series is a wonderful journey through the early 1900's. You get a glimpse of John D. Rockefeller and his powerful influence with Standard Oil. In the Assassin, Bell is tasked with tracking down a murderer that is targeting the Rockefeller empire. The murdered people are influential in the booming oil industry. The popular opinion is that Standard Oil is behind the turmoil because of Rockefeller's ruthless handling of his competitors. His usually method was to destroy a competitor's business and then buy them out for pennies on the dollar. Because of these practices he is considered one of the most hated men in America.

As Isaac protects the powerful tycoon and follows him all over the world, he looks to find the assassin. The final showdown, through the twists and turns, is a surprise.

As I mentioned, one of the reasons that I love this series is because of the time period. It is fun to explore this period of American history. Usually stories during this time frame are based in Europe so the American aspect is refreshing. Add to that a wonderful mystery/thriller and it is a great series.
