Based on seemingly universal accolades and my predisposition toward Serious, Meaningful Work™, I really expected to love this. Instead I read part 1 (of 4, long enough to be a novel itself) and decided to put it away for the time being. Pynchon clearly loves to write, and good on him for it, but his prose just doesn't feel purposeful to me, rather of the self-fart-sniffing persuasion, if you feel me?
slow-paced

It was a difficult and demanding read with many dead-end characters and side-plots. I think this book essentially comes down to whether you like the style of maximalism.

DID NOT FINISH: 3%

Need to focus read rather than listen to the audiobook, which I only got 1.5 hours into before realizing I wasn't comprehending enough to my liking. Will try again later.

There were some interesting passages in this, but otherwise I was not enamored. I listened to the audio book, and I tried looking up chapter summaries, and nothing at all seemed able to give me any coherent idea of what was going on.

I think stream of consciousness just isn't ever really going to be my thing, and Pynchon no more my friend than Faulkner.

It's alright. A bit short, though.
