the initial set up and OCD rep are good but i hate the leads with a burning passion that could rival the sun, especially blackwell. by the 50% mark i was begging for the book to end. nothing happens in this book - no character development, no plot, no actual romance - its just a puzzle/trial then the leads have sex then they argue and the cycle repeats. sad to say it just didn't hit for me.

this read like published fanfiction but i cant find anything around if that's true or not

I really liked the descriptions and the darker elements of the story! The romance felt more like lust-at-first-sight rather than enemies to lovers, and I didn't like the ending that much. But overall an entertaining read!

I think Phantasma had the bestest of the bestest ideas. I truly dove into the book from a three story building and SMACK my face against the paper. What a creepy, mesmerizing beginning of a story.

First and foremost, the spicy was “spicing” but everything happened in a week so I had to do a little work on my mind to convince myself that I was reading a story on the spam for at least a month otherwise I would put the book down.

Phantasma for me has 2 parts. The first that I LOVED with the creepy beginning, mysterious challenges and houses and creatures and an incredible representation of OCD that I never saw in fantasy and a main character that was intelligent and badass in her own special way.

And the second part where we understand that the challenges aren’t that difficult for the main character, where there is this insta-love and where the shadow voice is forgotten in the story. It’s like she’s cured. She only needed Blackwell. Which is… sad. This really made me sad. I didn’t like Genevieve and I felt her empty and the fact that the second book is about her … urgh.

But, I loved Blackwell and I don’t know if it's because I read too much fantasy that had the same conclusion but I figured out the end pretty much in the beginning of the book.

What I also loved about the story was the writing because it was beautiful and filled with good descriptions and metaphors and I felt that I was there in New Orleans with this creepy atmosphere. I also liked the creatures and the lore and the fact that I never truly understood in which time Phantasma occurs. I really like that.

Now… the bad guys. Do you know Thanos? From Avengers? I love to get scared that the MC can die or something bad can happen. The last time I felt it was with Thanos. It was a true villain with an incredible ARC that we could understand and we feared for our favorite characters because he was a REAL threat. I didn’t feel that for any of the bad guys (or girls) in this book. And if I could give a very unwanted piece of advice to any writer is that you should treat your villains like Thanos. MAKE ME FEEL SCARED!

In conclusion: I loved the writing, loved the world, loved Ophelia. Didn’t love the end, didn’t love the quick romance, didn’t love the bad guys. It's probably going to take some time to read the second one.
