3.5 ~ a great read. Tomson Highway shares a childhood in the north, including tales of daily life growing up with family and throughout their time at residential school. Includes abuse, infant loss, and other material that may be triggering.

An amazingly well-written memoir of Tomson Highway's childhood in Northern Canada. The memoir is told as a series of vignettes, moving back and forth from his years in a residential school to his summers at home with his family. He has a captivating writing style, infused with a great sense of humour.

An eye-opening look at Tomson Highway's early life and family and his time spent in Residential schools. Full of stories about love and caring as well as trauma and abuse. This book will make you think and have your heart breaking for all the children forced to attend residential schools. Highly recommend! Much thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for my advance review copy.
