I am so glad that I picked this collection up. It was the cover that caught my eye first with its bold black, white and red design. This was reinforced by the title and the synopsis which appealed to my love of the more traditional and more disturbing style of fairy tale. And I was not disappointed. These five stories embody everything I love about proper pre-Disney fairy tales with a real sense of horror, loss and haunting. There was a definite feel of the Brothers Grimm with a good sprinkling of the macabre masters such as Poe and James. This was supported by the superb illustrations that are as bold as the stories by using strong lines and solid colour. The only fault I can find with this collection is that it is simply not long enough.

This was a decent collection of graphic short stories, each with an eerie premise. I feel like the art was a tonal mix of classic fairy tale and Goosebumps. My favorite was the final story, “A Nesting Place.” It was the most “fleshed” out and had a concrete premise that I could sink my teeth into (see what I did there…) Some of the other pieces were a bit too ethereal or subtle for me and I felt like I was left wanting more.

Like a series of EC comic story told in a whimsical fashion. I wanted to dislike this, but I couldn’t help but enjoy every page. There’s a fine line to walk between whimsical horror and simply not horror anymore, and this book doesn’t admirably.

read it with lights on but it still managed to scare the daylights out of me.

the art is spooky and so are the stories. it's more on the unsettling than gory side which is how i like my horror books thank you.

Introduction 3.5 spooky and relatable. we all have thought about monsters lurking beside our bed

Our Neighbor's House 4was not expecting that. really spooky.

A Lady's Hands are Cold 2.5 it had potential to be really amazing but it fell short. and the whole ribbon thing is kinda cliché in horror genre.

My Friend Janna 4 another good one. the ending is so unsettling.

His Face All Red 4.5 this was probably my fav. even though the story is rather simple, i like the uncertainty it leaves the reader with.

The Nesting Place 3 just because the ending was once again fantastic. i mean i wasn't surprised per se by it but it still was good.

I'm here for the art but I can't stand stories with no definite endings.
