Stumbled upon this book while browsing the graphic novel section at the library. Intrigued by the strong graphics on the cover and the title that aimed towards fairytale-esque stories, I checked out the book.

I fell in love with the stark illustrations and rough cut version of storytelling. But while its depth in color and fresh use of page space (as opposed to the more traditional story boarding layout found in graphic novels) I felt it lacked finishing when it came to the actual stories. It seemed as if the author thought to give extra thrill to the stories by leaving them with a form of cliff hanger, when it instead felt incomplete not mysterious.

In this collection of graphic stories, the artwork is exquisite. And creepy! Five short stories are told, surrounded by an introduction and a conclusion that are just as haunting. Many of the stories are old--taking place in the past, as visible by the character's clothing. In "The Nesting Place," it looks like young Mabel might have polio--she wears leg braces and has a walking stick. Her story was my favorite--she met her nightmare and conquered it.

Add this to your Halloween displays for creepy stories--it will fly off the shelf!

Read this in one sitting while family was visiting for Christmas. Needless to say, I missed a lot of what was going on because I couldn't hear them while I was reading, I did nothing until I finished this book. Looking forward to more of these stories in the future.

Difficult to rate this collection as it genuinely freaked me out, so I guess it was doing its job in the end?! And the art style was gorgeous. However, I’m not very keen on gore detail (understatement) of which this graphic novel collection contains plenty. For that reason, I think I liked the story “Our Neighbour’s House” the most. And finally, I have come to the conclusion that
Spoiler I don’t like red worms coming out of eyeballs.

Haunting and gorgeous. This is the perfect creepy graphic novel with amazing illustrations. I'm so glad I read it.

It’s a beautiful graphic novel! However it just wasn’t for me. The stories were for 5 year olds really and just predictable. It was a “fun” read but..ehhh.

Holy Shit! It gave me the creeps in such a high, unexpected level I was kind of worried I’d have nightmares! So fucking good. And the art, omg! So creepy and beautiful. This book is a collection of five, very well done, short stories – a really quick and so worthy read. I strongly recommend it to everyone, readers and nonreaders, horror fans and non horror fans… Just pick it up, trust me.
