You don’t have to be a woman of a certain age to read and enjoy The Change, but it will certainly help! It really left me wishing I had some form of power manifesting along with my hot flushes and my (sometimes!) irrational bouts of anger.

The main characters in The Change, Nessa, Harriet and Jo, all start to manifest unusual powers as they hit perimenopause. Harriet grows plants, particularly useful ones; Jo becomes extremely strong; Nessa sees the dead.
These women are set to put the backs up of the rich and powerful men of Mattauk, and seek revenge on behalf of the ghosts of the dead women who suffered at their hands.
The Change has some seriously feminist vibes - these women are fed up of being talked down to and objectified and it seems nature is out to give them a helping hand. I have to admit to being more than a little jealous!
I was utterly hooked, and really didn’t want to put this book down - I knew something even more exciting/ traumatising/ mind blowing was just over the next page!
Part of me would love a follow up to this, but I also rather like the fact that I’m left wondering what on earth could happen next!

This book was a bit much for me. It is very heavy, even the parts we are supposed to cheer for. I think I was supposed to be happy at how the ending turned out, but I wasn’t. While this one localized issue was resolved, what about the rest of the world?

I also had some questions that were unanswered. If other women like the three main characters exist and have existed for generations, how isn’t there a larger network of them?

After certain characters were introduced I knew fairly quickly they’d end up being the bad folks, but I didn’t know how. I almost DNF this audiobook several times but I did ultimately want to know how it ended.

I'm always looking for books about people going through perimenopause, and I like witches as well as the next guy, so The Change seemed like a winner. I enjoyed the vengeance demon of it all, but in general the novel has a binary, gender essentialist energy that I found troubling. Miller is a Barnard alum. I wonder if I can get any intel...

I loved this book. Thriller, mystery, feminine power all wrapped in to one supernatural story. The characters are strong and venerable all at once and the plot is somewhat predictable but still very good.

I need a sequel. Or more chapters/POV’s getting to know everyone better. This book is cathartic & itched a scratch I didn’t know I had.
