some of the wording is outdated and I don't agree with all of the arguments by the author but all in all it was an informative book with some very interesting statistics and a well-rounded understanding of the topic!

- "No somos mercancía.

really interesting read overall on how capitalism is detrimental to women's autonomy, and Ghodsee clearly has done thorough research on the topic. My biggest problem with the book is she seems to propose democratic socialism as the best alternative (which is not the same as socialism, has its own problems and is not anti-imperalist), and her case studies only center around the (white) ussr countries and white socialists, rather the gender equality enjoyed by, say, china and cuba, despite the west's attempts to demonize them + the existence of many communists of color. She also places an overly large emphasis on women going to the polls as the solution to alt-right fascism, despite a) us generally not having viable leftist candidates in a two-party system and b) white women often vote against women's interests because they enjoy their white privilege.

TL;DR: Great primer for those new to socialist and feminist theory though a little outdated now (and trust me, a lot has happened since 2018 that it matters.)
