❐ Contemporary Romance
❐ Fake Date/Sort of Insta-Love
I feel like this was split up into two books just so they could call one of the books Girl in Luv and the other Boy in Luv because it was cute.
For me, it was cute, bringing into play the fake date trope, just not enough cute to warrant two books.
I enjoyed the first book a little more since it had more story and less sex. Essentially, I believe this would have been better as one book and at least two fewer sex scenes.

Need a fake date for a wedding can be such a fun troupe, and I really liked what [a:Jay Crownover|6875794|Jay Crownover|https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1482269833p2/6875794.jpg] and [a:Rebecca Yarros|7539785|Rebecca Yarros|https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1542433723p2/7539785.jpg] did with it here. On the surface Langley seems like a classic poor little rich girl character, but she's really so much more than that. Yes, she grew up rich and goes to a private college, but also volunteers at an animal shelter in her free time and plans on using her finance degree to help companies maximize the funds they use for charitable giving. There's also some Cinderella-like vibes going on here, with her wretched stepmother and even worse stepsister, though thankfully her father is still alive--which actually adds another layer to her story, since Langley goes out of her way to try and make things go smoothly for him, which only serves to help the stepmonsters make her life more miserable. I mean, she agrees to be in her stepsister's wedding to her own ex-boyfriend just so she doesn't rock the familial boat. Langley's close to reaching the end of her rope, though, and just needs a little extra push to get her to start standing up for herself--a push, and a fake date.
Enter Iker. Of course he's just agreeing to the whole fake date scheme because he 1) needs some quick cash for his brother's tuition and 2) he's got some time off anyway because he's deploying in a week. He admits the first to Langley early on, but takes way too long to let her in on #2...because of course the two of them start falling for each other almost immediately. He gives her the motivation she needs to stand up for herself, and she makes him rethink his plan to be a lifelong loner devoted to his job and supporting his family from a distance.
But almost as soon as he starts to contemplate how nice it might be to have someone in his life on a permanent basis, their time together is over, and bam! so is the book. I can't even begin to tell you how glad I was that the second half of the duet was already out, because I was in no mood to wait for a new release date for these two to finally get their HEA :)

Ese final... Duele.

Summary:
Langley needs a fake date for her stepsister's wedding (where she will be marrying her ex-boyfriend). She meets Iker and lucky for her, he is in need of cash. They make a plan to ruin the wedding.
(Sorry for the bad summary, I'm just so tired of them. I'm not doing them next year.)
What I Liked:
The ending, up until I found out there was a sequel. And then it got slightly better? Not gonna lie, a duology seems like a good plan and way to explore this story more, but regardless, I liked how this book ended (except one part) with themnot being together .
What I Didn't Like:
I didn't like the fact that the guy already felt insta-love from the beginning. Not only that, but the situation where they met was odd (specifically, his intentions). He didn't want to associate with her, so he didn't look at her, but then followed her and defended her? Or the fact he really liked her, but didn't tell her he was leaving to her face, what a cowardly and unloving thing to do.
The fact that they had to emphasize how different Langley was from the other girls. This book really relied on the fact that all of the rich daughters were selfish bitches that only like drama (except for Langley, of course). Do anything to make your protagonist look good, right?
Another thing was the whole family dynamic between the Vaughns. Especially the miscommunication thing between Langley and her dad. But overall, Langley is stupid for making herself miserable for her dad. Her dad is stupid for not noticing how his new wife and stepdaughter are treating his daughter. Her stepmom is stupid for believing everything her daughter does is amazing and that Langley stopped anyone from having a proper relationship. And her stepsister is stupid for thinking that Langley has it the best and that all the greatest things belong to her. They are all stupid.
Also, another thing I hated, the fact that out of everyone, it was Iker who understood Langley. Langley is the complete opposite of her stepsister and their life, so they don't get along. However, Langley is also the complete opposite of Iker and his life, yet they get along fine. I think it's just Langley who thinks she's better than her stepsister all the goddamn time, thus why her stepsister felt like she needed to get a one-up on her all the time. She only got along with Iker because she let him into her life in ways that she didn't to others. She only got along with Iker because they were gonna ruin her stepsister's wedding. I don't care that they cheated on you (yes that's horrible), but the fact that they ARE GETTING MARRIED says something, no?
Overall:
Essentially, Langley is an "I'm not like other girls" person and I hate that. No one in this book has any personality, at all. Everyone is stupid and unrealistic.

I loved Iker. He was everything in these too few pages.
I almost liked Langley, but there were too many times I want to scream at her to speak up for herself and stop taking these people sh*t. I didn't like her dad because you have to absolutely be up your own ass not to notice that out of the 4 people living in your house, 1 of them is being treated like crap. As for everyone else, I totally disliked them.
I'm hoping beyond hope that things get better in the next installment in this duet. Especially after Langley's dad FINALLY came to some realizations.
The fact that I want to continue on with the next book tells you that it may not be as bad for you as I'm making it sound. It left me just curious enough after the way this part ended to want to pick up the next and final book.

So I liked both the characters and I even liked the plot. And this book led me to Rebecca Yarros, so hooray for that.
3.5 Stars. First off, I absolutely love the cover for this so much. I thought the main characters were likable and enjoyed their fake relationship. I expected this to be really angsty, but it wasn't and I liked that. I was kind of bored for large parts of it, though. There really wasn't much to it, but it was an easy read. I do plan on reading the next book.
I do have one little rant, though. This series is on Kindle Unlimited right now, but apparently you originally had to pre-order a book from one of the authors to get it as a bonus and to get the second book in the series you had to pre-order a book from the other author. I don't like that at all. What if you loved this story, but had zero interest in the book you had to pre-order to get the second half of this story? It just seems manipulative and wrong to me.

Because no matter how different we were, or the numerous financial trappings that separated us…he’d proven he was someone worth fighting for time and time again.
I have to be honest, at first I was reluctant to read this book because instalove and all that "military hero" thing it's not for me, but the fake dating trope and that cover...
This book was so funny, sweet and easy to read! the history and the characters do it for me. Even with the instalove trope, it felt real, you really can feel the connection and chemistry between these two.
It was a good book, i don't know if it's a remarkable one, but i genuinely enjoyed it!
