A child’s body is found dumped in a suitcase. The girl is of African descent but even with a facial reconstruction Garda Sergeant Mike West and his team can’t get an identification. The team are also investigating a spate of mugging in coal car parks. The three man team carrying them out are very organized and choose their victims carefully. After a lengthy stakeout the Garda catch the team at a local shopping centre. When one of the muggers is later found murdered it becomes clear that there is a link between and the body in the suitcase. Edel Johnson is moving forward with her new career as an author and has moved in with Mike; however it seems that someone is determined to ruin both her professional and personal life.

This is the fourth in the Garda West series by Valerie Keogh and is again a really good read.

Thanks to Bloodhound Books and Valerie Keogh for the ARC of this book in return for an honest review.

Another first time read author for me and I really enjoyed this crime novel. I liked it because it was what I would call a gentle murder investigation rather than brutal and gory, and I liked the partnership between DS Mike West and DC Peter Andrews. Even the tea drinking and biscuit munching, not to mention the endless popping out to meet people and drink coffee made me smile. In that sense the book didn't seem tense throughout, which for some might be a minus point, but for me just added to the pleasant ambience of the book.
There was enough of a 'I need to turn the page and find out what is happening' feel without having to hold my breath. I found the relationship between West and Edel interesting and got the sense that although this book can be read as a stand-alone there is a previous history that I knew nothing about because I haven't read previous books.
A body turns up in a suitcase and it is that of a child around the age of 2. The police are investigating all sorts of different crimes and none seem to be connected. But there is a link between car park crime and a later death in an alleyway.
Join these detectives in Ireland and help them put the pieces together to reveal a much darker crime than anyone at first suspected.

This is not my first book by this author but it is my favorite. I can't wait to see what she has for us next. I enjoyed this book and the twist and turns that kept me turning pages. I found myself connecting with the characters easily. They made the story feel real as if I was right there with them. This is a story about a boy who finds a suit case that has a young body in it. This is where the story picks up and was hard to put down. I was pulled into the this suspense-mystery story fast. I highly recommend this book and this author.
