I loved this book in a way that surprised me. The narrator is an objectively terrible human, there's no reason to feel sympathy for her (other than her terrible childhood), and even her friend kind of sucks. But man, this anti-heroine drew me in and made me want to read more about her year of lassitude and torpor.

“But passing through it in the cab, in my frenzied state of despair, I understood: there was stability in living in the past.”

The narrator was a stuck up, emotionless bitch, and it was incredibly hard to listen to her. But the writing was good and the story was like a garbage fire. Although I hated the characters, it was a really interesting story and I felt compelled to read the entire thing through. The reason it doesn’t get a higher rating is because nothing really happens in the entire novel. But it was alright
