This book had me laughing out loud! 😂 Sheridan was just the best. I really enjoyed the first book and this one surpassed that one. Loving this series.

"... That was something. Progress. At this rate, she'd be Lady Sheridan in a decade, at the most."

What a fun story! Sheridan cracked me up throughout the story, he was hilarious! The humor of this book was definitely my favorite thing about the story. The mystery element was exciting and picked up nicely where book 1 in this series leaves off. A lovely and enjoyable read!

I received a copy of this book from the publisher and also purchased my own Audible copy. I was not required to post a positive review. All thoughts are my own.

2021 was a rough year to be a Roseanna White fan, but To Treasure an Heiress returns to what a lot of fans like about her books. I was looking forward to Sheridan and Beth falling in love since the Nature of a Lady, and it delivered.

Most of what made this book delightful was the humor, especially Sheridan's internal monologue. Both he and Beth have arcs of making their faith a central, not sidelined, part of their lives. Although I didn't appreciate the addition of a servant's POV because it was not necessary for the plot, ultimately I liked the lessons she learned, which felt more concrete to me than the main characters'. Ainsley, who does not have a POV here, was my favorite character. There are a lot of players in this book, so you'll want to read the first book first.

Sheridan's "deconstruction" views were a bit concerning- always tread carefully when talking about disregarding the church - it's obviously not infallible (hello, Reformation), but there must be something to it if so many people who love Jesus hold to it. But it seems in line with the author's new trajectory of inserting obviously concerning views into her books. Whether or not she agrees with her characters, I have no idea. The majority of the "I love Jesus but not the church" people are, like Sheridan, not the strongest Bible-readers and holy-life-livers that I know, and therefore are not the ones I believe should be telling the religion how to relig. After you've surrendered your life to Jesus, then we'll talk. Sheridan did have a come to Jesus moment but I don't remember his views on the church really being resolved, just like the evolution in Nature of a Lady kind of faded away for me and I missed what came of it.

There's a couple of surprising ways things were handled, and I always appreciated when a story has a unique turn instead of following the expected path. There's also the promised pirate treasure hunt and adventure, more of the beautiful island setting history. By the way, am I the only one who doesn't love when prologues are about someone else? It really didn't seem necessary to the story and now I know why people skip them.

I know this is coming across as mostly negative but I really did enjoy the read because I liked the characters, their developments, and that no females were threatened with sexual assault in it. I was provided a copy of the ebook from the publisher through Netgalley, but all opinions are my own.

I have been looking forward to the next installment in this still-being-written series. I have always loved every book by Roseanna M White I have read, and am enjoying these books set in the Isles of Scilly, off the coast of Cornwall around the turn of the century (1905-1906 time frame). This one picks up right where the first one left off, and focuses on Oliver Tremayne’s sister Beth. Beth has been hunting for Prince Rupert’s treasure all summer (and Lady Elizabeth was mistaken for her in book one), and now has a lot of help in unearthing the mysteries and oral stories on their islands about the treasure, the long ago prince and his island love. Oliver’s soon-to-be brother-in-law and his best friend Lord Sheridan are still in residence on Tresco and Beth is convinced Lord Sheridan is up to no good. However, this mild mannered marquess is a noble archeologist, who has no desire to steal buried treasure. I enjoyed Beth and Theo (Lord Sheridan)’s story so much, and am eager to read the next/last in this series.

To Treasure an Heiress has to be one of my all time favorite Roseanna M. White books! This story had everything: a funny, endearing hero whom I completely fell in love with, an amazing slow burn romance, a pirate prince’s treasure, an inspirational story that brought me to tears, dastardly villains, and enough suspense to keep me quickly turning the pages. It’s the brilliant sequel to The Nature of a Lady that I absolutely loved.

Set on the beautiful Isles of Scilly, the adventure begins with the story of pirate prince Rupert from the 1650’s who unexpectedly falls in love with a beautiful woman from the isles. Forced to leave her after a quick marriage, he provides clues to a treasure that will hopefully sustain her until he comes back. Now it’s 1906 and all the lovable characters from the first book are working together to locate the lost treasure. They aren’t the only ones seeking it though and several ambitious men will go to any lengths to get it.

I absolutely adored the romance between Beth and Sheridan. Sheridan starts out as Beth’s nemesis but he gradually wins her over with his quick wit, his self deprecating humor, and his absolute charm and lack of guile. He even reads Jane Austen! How much more perfect can you get! He definitely won me over instantly. I chuckled at his adorable inner monologues. Beth was a favorite too and the two of them together were both hilarious and enchanting.

The other characters were just as delightful. I loved seeing Elizabeth and Oliver from the first book as well as the insightful and endearing Mamm-wynn. We’re also introduced to some new characters, Senara daughter to the Dawes who unexpectedly returns home after losing her position, Ainsley Sheridan’s incomparable valet, and Sheridan’s sisters who were not only charming, but funny too.

Along with the treasure seeking and romance are several inspirational themes expertly woven into the story. The first is the importance of family. This is shared in numerous ways with all the various sibling pairs in the story, Scilly families, and Mamm-wynn’s loving relationship with everyone. The second is the worth of a soul as precious as a pearl. Without spoiling anything, I loved the message of true repentance and how important it is to forgive ourselves.

This is definitely one book you don’t want to miss! Highly recommend this second book in the Secrets of the Isles series and can’t wait to read Emily and Bram’s story! I received advanced complimentary copies of this book from the publisher and NetGalley. All opinions are my own and I was not required to provide a positive review.

This may possibly be my new favorite book by Roseanna White. Everything about it was marvelous. I loved the scenery of the islands (which I'd gotten a peek of in The Nature of a Lady), the close-knit relationships of the Islanders (although I would have loved to see more of Mabena), and of course the banter between Sheridan and Beth.

Sheridan may be pushing Barclay down to second place as my favorite male hero or they may be sharing that title together.

I absolutely loved Sheridan's inner dialogue. The book could have been written entirely in his POV and I would have been fine with it.

This book has everything; deep faith (sins, forgiveness, redemption), hilarious banter, adventure, pirates, princes, buried treasure, nefarious villains, and a sweet love story. And of course, Mammwyn.

It is definitely one that I will pick up again and again!

Title: To Treasure an Heiress
Author: Roseanna M White

Ch: 30

Pg: 384

Series: Secrets of the Isles

Genre: Christian Historical Fiction, Christian Historical romance

Rating: 4.5 stars

Publisher: Bethany House

I have to say that To Treasure an Heiress is my favorite book of the Secrets of the Isle series. And I think it’s the whole searching for pirate treasure and finding out more to the pirate story. Plus, Beth become a favorite of mine in the first book and Sheridan quickly grew on me. And just like the first book I loved Beth’s grandmas’ words of wisdom.

But someone else kind of stole the hero title away from Sheridan at least from my point of view. And that was Ainsley lord Sheridan valet. I loved that Ainsley wasn’t afraid to live out his faith. He never turned away from the chance to share the love of Jesus. Ainsley was always willing to do the right thing no matter the cost. But importantly he didn’t treat Senara differently when he learned the truth. He just showed her who she was in Christ, and he wanted her to find Christ even if didn’t end the way he wanted it to. Ainsley quote l, “But we’re not fabric, Senara. We are pearls.” Is the quote that stands out to me the most.

I love a book in which you love the main characters but it’s the secondary characters that steal your heart. And he becomes the hero of the book to you.

I look forward to the next book in series to see how everything wraps up. And like always I love her Roseann threads faith throughout the story.
