A great classic, and a wonderful read for kids under 12. Enjoyment guarenteed.
This is an old childhood favourite, and I still love it. It's a bit slow to get going, but a good story if you stick with it. I was struck by the horrible, self-absorbed adults in the book; I think this is one of the books which made me determined to be an adult who respects and listens to children.
Love my time travel stories, but perhaps I need to read them when I discover them randomly rather than taking it as a recommendation. This is true of any book as the expectations are often set far too high by me. Need to learn not to do that.
Enjoy the book but skimmed through the parts on "time" - call me a slacker if you must.

A very nice fairy-tale story with a moving, if not particularly surprising ending. I enjoyed it all the way through, and had no trouble finishing it in four days, which is fast for me. Initially, I only picked this up because one of the essays in Daemon Voices by Philip Pullman seems to make extensive reference to it and I wanted to read it before starting the essay; but that's not to take away from the fact that I'm glad to have read this story, for its own sake.
