Okay.. um... I guess that I thought this was a children's book, but the dedication page really lets you know what you're getting into- it's a panorama of a river scene, with a clearly dead body floating on the water. So... there's that. I think that it's true that children have a more (relatively, of course) positive picture painted for them in the form of Rosa Parks or Martin Luther King, Jr- but they have few resources that present the ugliness of lynchings or Jim Crow, "himself." I guess... I leave it up to each parent, but it felt a little heavy for a picture book.
