"But one thing I learned from the Saints, when the crossroads are open to you, you must decide a path. I will not stand still while the world makes my choices"

I had high expectations for Clap When You Land and I’m sad that it didn’t work as well for me. I love all of Elizabeth Acevedo’s books and after reading the synopsis I thought this was going to be no exception. However, I didn’t really connect with any of the characters and felt like the pacing was off (too fast) and somehow made it unbelievable? idk With that being said, this is by no means a bad book and, like all of her books, was hard-hitting and worth the read.

Camino’s father spends the school year in the US, but every summer he comes back to the Dominican Republic to be with her. Then one summer, his plane goes down after it leaves New York, and every thing changes. Told in verse, this is a beautiful story.

Beautifully written, heartbreaking story about the aftermath of a father's long-standing deception of his two daughters coming out. Acevedo's prose is so impactful. I loved hearing from both girl's perspective in their very different homes.

This book was recommended to me by a colleague who uses it in her ELA class. I am so glad I read it. It’s a beautiful story of grief, love, and forgiveness. It’s also an eye opening look at Dominican culture. It was so good I could not put it down.
