A man and woman meet, fall in love, hurt each other and try the dance with someone else. Almost wordless, evocative art drawn in spontaneous feeling colored pencil. Simple, sweet, sad and lovely.
like great song lyrics. it's sparse in both words and illustration and hits you just right. great graphic novel about relationships that don't always last.
This felt like a generic but affecting breakup poem or song; read it in about 10 minutes while listening to Taylor Swift's Tortured Poets Department on in the background, which was complementary. Lovely colored pencil drawings; this really felt like art, and has a beautiful, wistful tone. Really sad, but with sweet detail and joy/humor (e.g., dancing at home, ordering a side of compassion along with a breakup at a restaurant).
The metaphors (jumping into a combat zone, hitting a lover with a bat) didn't always come together for me (notably, the jumping into a combat zone drawings in the beginning felt very different than the later metaphorical interludes). I did really like that the interludes ended up including a character that met up with the protagonist (in, again, a sad/agonizing way).

I like the use of colored pencils, especially with layering. I thought it was interesting to include mirror images of people, but without their 'outlines' just their colors. Some of the stories were sweet, such as when they are dancing and it ends with the woman queuing up the song to do it again.
As a book, it feels incomplete and a bit lazy. I guess there was a goal to do without backgrounds, have one-sided conversations, just a lack of details and continuous plot, but it left me thinking, 'that's it?' You could make a book of anything, I guess.

This was a short read that pretty accurately described the rise and fall of a generic relationship. There were seemingly interstitial bits, providing metaphors for common relationship issues, that really hit home. It's worth a look-through if it's at hand. I love the colored pencil (?) coloring- it really worked.
