“i will never leave him. it will be this, always, for as long as he will let me.”

idk if i’ve ever read a book that has made me cry as much as song of achilles did. this was a beautiful book with phenomenal writing that left me speechless, however, so incredibly devastated and heartbroken. before reading this book i had heard of achilles, but not patroclus. i knew the fate of the characters, but i never knew it could be depicted in such a way where it hurt so bad. throughout reading this book, i felt like i knew the characters personally and felt everything they felt. achilles and patroclus together was perfect and beautiful. they both understood each others flaws, and took care of each other with such dedication i was jealous. idc what people say, achilles and patroclus were definitely in love and madeline miller paints it in such a beautiful picture. although the ending broke my heart, i will never forget their story. no matter how accurate or inaccurate it may be, we will never know. but, they were perfect for each other.

“whatever you became. it would not matter to me. we would be together.”

This book is beautiful. It just is. I don't know what to say, except that it's amazingly lyrical, beautifully written, and now one of my favorite books.
I'd recommend it for anyone looking for a beautiful historical novel, especially a retelling.

Oops--this book didn't wreck me! But it was so beautifully written and had some extremely tender moments that I loved. Miller is truly an artist with her words. I just didn't get into this one as much as I did with "Circe" and I'm sure the battles and politics were to blame. I understand the hype, but it was fine for me.
