A tragic but hopeful story set in a unique fantasy world. The main character, a star fallen from the sky, is the perfect mix of competent and clueless; a magical being on a mission of vengeance against humankind, who doesn’t know the first thing about humans or the human body he has been put into. Some humans fall perfectly into the selfish image he has of them after they killed one after another of his predecessors for their own protection, while others show him compassion, kindness, and love—so where will his judgment fall in the end?
I was taken in from the start by the characters, each of them complex and intriguing, forming a cast of unlikely heroes and all-too-real villains. The story has the inevitable pull of tragedy, while still containing pulse-quickening surprises (which I won’t spoil!) so it’s continuously hard to tell how safe it is hold onto hope…
