Read from May 25, 2021 to December 2, 2021. The single star is for Seiji and Nicholas (and Eugene), who were not in this book nearly enough. The majority of the book is the miscommunication trope, which I hate. It gets to the point where Harvard is just genuinely a terrible friend to Aiden, and reading about Aiden's misery is painful rather than compelling because it drags on and it's over a boy that treats him like dirt.

I loved the comics and the first book. I've read "Striking Distance" somewhere between 4 and 6 times. Sarah Rees Brennan's actual prose is still great; I love her jokes. But because Harvard Lee is the worst, he managed to ruin the entire book. I don't even recall how I managed to finish.

The main reason I hope for more Sarah Rees Brennan books in the "Fence" world is because I love-love-love her portrayal of Seiji. And Nicholas, but it's mostly Seiji-and-Nicholas. I love how cute AND HEALTHY their relationship is. Ergo, "the lovable characters" with "strong character development" were Seiji and Nicholas. Harvard was a disaster, and he even managed to drag down Aiden's chapters. But now that their arc is finished, if we could get a Seiji-and-Nicholas centric book by Rees Brennan, I'd be over-the-moon excited.
