Some chapters were stronger than others. As a whole, this was not nearly as interesting as her other work, Smoke Gets In Your Eye. More like a 2.75

Caitlin Doughty is so knowledgeable and honest about death and the mortuary industry. Being able to learn about global death customs through her eyes was fascinating. With every destination she is both educating and guiding you towards thinking critically about how you view death, how we handle it as a society, and perhaps, plan for your own eventual mortality. I think donating myself to the body farm is top of my list at the moment.

I really want to read her third book, but am also sad it will be the last one!

i loved this. caitlin discusses and invites the reader into some truly incredible practices and gives well-deserved honor to both the deceased and the various processes/customs/traditions that care for them. i definitely cried during a few chapters. very grateful that i bought myself a copy bc i’m gonna reread it until i die, too.
