Was a very fun book to read. The premise of the book was so interesting and kept me intrigued for the entire time. It would have contended for a 5 star rating from me but the besides the last 2 chapters of the book things went a little catawampus.
***slight spoiler ahead***
I would love a sequel book or two covering the other locations explained towards the end of the book. Seeing the other locations and how they all connect to this secretive community would be very cool.

bloody good
If you don’t like blood and gore do not read this book! Overall good book, I’ve never read one with this concept before and it had me hooked from the beginning

2022 Horror Reading Challenge: Revenge
The Venue is what you get when you mix Battle Royal, Ready or Not and Hostel. If that sounds like a chaotic combination, that’s because it is. But wow is this a fun, fast paced ride. The story revolves around the wedding celebration of Caleb and Lilith, and immediately everything about this wedding is off. From how the wedding invitations are sent to the rules, even down to the fully paid for travel expenses. But even being on your guard doesn’t prepare you for just how bananas the wedding is. I really enjoyed the main character of Anna, her ex girlfriend Mariko and her darling parents as well. They kept this insane story grounded with real emotional moments. Something I really enjoyed about this book is the message of communication, and how simple misunderstandings can creat a mess that was never intended. It was kind of a weird message in the book, but I’m here for it. If you are looking for a fun, brutal, absolutely bonkers book, I definitely recommend The Venue.

I struggled between a 3 and a 4 on this one. I didn't like it as much as the other book I'd read from this author, but it still moved smoothly. The character development was rushed, but it felt right in this scenario. I figured out the twist early, but it went even further than I expected. I also feel like there were some parts that could have been left out completely. (Sterioids?)
There is a lot of blood and gore, and I think it may qualify as horror more than The Intercepts. And I do love a good horror book. It's so hard to find good ones these days.
Caleb and Lillith are getting married and found the perfect spot for their wedding. And so the invites go out, and it's an all-paid trip, so many guests RSVP without a bat of an eye. Amy has some suspicions early on, but she keeps them at bay. She had planned to bring Mariko, her girlfriend, but she just broke up with her because of commitment issues. Since Amy's parents are also going (which seems odd but ok), she keeps the original plans. The entire trip seems weird from the beginning, and it just gets weirder. And darker.
It's definitely an original story, like nothing else I've read. I rounded up from a 3.5, and look forward to more from this author.
