I struggled between a 3 and a 4 on this one. I didn't like it as much as the other book I'd read from this author, but it still moved smoothly. The character development was rushed, but it felt right in this scenario. I figured out the twist early, but it went even further than I expected. I also feel like there were some parts that could have been left out completely. (Sterioids?)

There is a lot of blood and gore, and I think it may qualify as horror more than The Intercepts. And I do love a good horror book. It's so hard to find good ones these days.

Caleb and Lillith are getting married and found the perfect spot for their wedding. And so the invites go out, and it's an all-paid trip, so many guests RSVP without a bat of an eye. Amy has some suspicions early on, but she keeps them at bay. She had planned to bring Mariko, her girlfriend, but she just broke up with her because of commitment issues. Since Amy's parents are also going (which seems odd but ok), she keeps the original plans. The entire trip seems weird from the beginning, and it just gets weirder. And darker.

It's definitely an original story, like nothing else I've read. I rounded up from a 3.5, and look forward to more from this author.

maybe there’s something wrong with me but i just could not root for the good guys here. i didn’t feel any connection to the love story between mariko and amy so that’s probably why i didn’t care much for them to “win” in the end. even still, the concept of the venue was very cool and i couldn’t put the book down.
