A dark start, slow in the middle and a weirdo, not quite resolved ending

I found the characters reactions to the weird stuff happening unsatisfying, though I guess avoidance is a common reaction to something scary

Maybe if I could read Japanese I would have enjoyed this book, but the English translation was so full of cliches, stilted dialogue and awkward wording that I could just could not get into it. Interesting premise and I hoped that the super slow buildup was leading to something...anything, but nope.
