I could not put this down and read it in less than 24 hours. It's a little Summer Sisters, a little Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants and a walk down memory lane as four childhood friends spend one last summer weekend at Blue's Nana's house in Montauk before it's sold. They not only re-visit teenage loves, but the night that tore their friendship apart. The book faltered slightly around Blue & Jack's drinks, but rebounded to finish strong. Solid summer read.

I felt all the emotions with this one, from laughing to the ridiculousness of Maya, to crying right along with Hannah. Each friend so different, and yet so integral to the group. The author keeps you coming back for more, reading each page to find out about the night that forever changed their lives. However I felt like the end fell flat for me. I wanted more! I need to know what happens with the characters!

I didn’t hate it but I didn’t love it. The characters were hard to keep track of at first, the story had no real plot in my opinion and the ending was just okay. I’d give it 2.5 stars

2.5 stars rounded up. Really short, quick read but the characters are so unlikeable. The story that it’s 12years later was not believable & no one acted 12years older. The “mystery” seemed unnecessarily dark & I think it was to make the book memorable, otherwise there’s nothing that stood out.

This took a turn that I was absolutely not expecting and it changed a fluffier book to a deep one.

Free copy from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

I read because Emily Henry told me to. Not a bad book but just didn’t latch on like I thought I would.

——

1 - Finished but didn’t like
2 - meh, will likely forget about it tomorrow
3 - liked, but nothing to rave about
4 - really liked but wasn’t quite a home run for me
5 - loved, devoured, would likely read again

I'm officially a Kerry Kletter fan. If you keep a quote notebook like I do, you will be busy writing in it while reading any of Kletter's books!

Not a good match to its title, this is a heavier women’s fiction novel about women recovering from trauma and how it impacts their lives and friendships.

While I can see why people love this book it just wasn't for me.

2/5

We follow 4 best friends who are reconnecting after 12 years. There was an incident right after they graduated high school that sent each girl in a separate way as she handled the trauma. They reconnect for a weekend at the beach and have to face what happened and face each other.
This book is written where each chapter is from a different girl's perspective and honestly none of them are doing great. They each have dealt with the trauma in a different way, but none of it was healthy. This book is sad, and honestly to me didn't leave me feeling great. I didn't like any of the characters, and I felt like the friendships were terrible.

While the book is very character driven I did see how it makes a great book club discussion, and I can see why people who like sad books would enjoy this.
