Another great suspense story from Terri Blackstock.
A tragic explosion begins the story. An anonymous tip finds Dereck Webb pulled over, unknowingly with explosives in his trunk. Set up to take the fall, he calls on an old friend, and lawyer Jaime, to help him out. There's also a parallel story is that of Taylor, who was present at the explosion and made it out alive, but without her friends.
There is a progressive unfolding of relationships, friends and strangers, the pieces of the mystery get pieced together, in unexpected ways. It's a story that will keep you on your toes right til the end!

My Review Excerpt:
Renowned Christian fiction author, Terri Blackstock, delivers yet another gripping, deeply emotional novel based on the traumatic unfolding of events that affect that multiples lives after a public bombing.
Blackstock never fails to dive into the hard, unexpected realities and emotions that humans face when walking through life. In her newest novel, Aftermath, she delicately walks readers through loss, grief, poor choices, obsession and trauma while creating a suspenseful, but inspired tale of triumph and hope.
My Full Review:
Terri Blackstock has successfully, once again, gifted her readers with a new novel brimming with mystery, intrigue, and suspense with her new release, Aftermath.
From the opening chapter, I was hooked on the dramatic unfolding of events that spiraled after a public bombing takes place in Atlanta, GA.
I’ve been a long time admirer of the very relatable, real characters that Blackstock creates. She places her characters in real life situations, invoking struggles, emotions and harsh realities we all have to face at one time or another in life, thus creating a story that is felt as much as it is read. This is perhaps my favorite part of this particular story. Readers are able to gain insight from several characters’ points of view in this story that serves the mystery and suspense well by adding multiple layers to the unfolding narrative.
In addition to the deep emotion and the riveting suspense, Blackstock offers readers an inspired sense of hope and showcases a deeply personal relationship with Christ. I find this to be another beautiful aspect of her novels; she never fails to weave a story that is Gospel-centered. The faith based aspects of the story are meaningful and heartfelt, something both Christian and secular readers can find uplifting. These elements balance the heart-wrenching and serious weight this story holds also.
Aftermath is very well written, emotional, captivating and the characters are well-rounded and relatable.
It was refreshing and unique to read a suspense-based story that didn’t offer a point of view from the law enforcement field. Blackstock instead delivered a case that flowed through the hearts and minds of a young woman, an attorney and two business partners as they processed and investigated the bombing in their own ways. There is a hint of romance throughout the story as well that I enjoyed. Overall, I believe readers who like mysteries and romantic suspense will enjoy this story and I highly recommend it.
*I voluntarily received a complimentary e-copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley. All thoughts below are my own and I was not required to post a positive review.

My rating: 5 out of 5 stars
I was apprehensive going into this book. I was disappointed by Terri Blackstock's last release, "Smoke Screen" and was worried that I wouldn't love "Aftermath," either. I'm so glad to say that I did!
"Aftermath," showcases Terri Blackstock's talent for writing suspenseful, yet believable stories.
She did a great job of keeping me on my toes. I really did not guess the ending!
Besides enjoying the suspenseful parts of the book, I also enjoyed getting to know the characters and their backgrounds. Jamie struggles with regret and feeling distant from God is one I think we can all relate to at some point in our lives. I think we can also empathize with Dustin's feelings of never being enough. Taylor's struggle with mental health will also really resonate with many.
I won't say anything else, because I don't want to spoil it, besides that its great. If you enjoy books that are intense, but not graphic, and appreciate solid faith content, I think you would like "Aftermath," as well!
