Special thanks to the author, Thomas Nelson and NetGalley for the review copy! I’m such a fan of Terri’s, she writes Christian fiction that doesn’t harp or try to throw her beliefs into you. I am a Christian and appreciate a well written story that is able to show Gods love for us all without being a hypocrite or harping.

This story was immense and so good! Innocent people are killed after an explosion at a concert/political rally. Not too long after that, Dustin is arrested after a cop just happens to pull him over, after given an anonymous tip. Dustin calls his old friend/neighbor, lawyer Jamie to help him. The story focuses on proving Dustin’s innocence and finding out who’s really behind it.

The story flowed well and had great points of conflict as well as reasoning. The characters were well developed and their personalities showed well. I loved it and highly recommend it!

This was my first Terri Blackstock book, and I loved it! I thought the characters were very well-written and realistic, and I really enjoyed the plot. I also found the inclusion of one of the victim's POVs very interesting, and I believe it added to the suspense factor. Plus, I was pleasantly surprised at how solid the theology was in this book. A lot of Christian fiction books out there have really surface-level theology and faith, but Terri wasn't afraid to tackle some tough topics in this one.

The one thing I was not impressed with was the lack of romance. You don't really get a romantic scene until the last couple of chapters in the book (and it's a non-descriptive kiss scene) . I really felt like that scene should've happened earlier in the story, and it would've created more tension for the characters to deal with along the way. If you're someone who prefers more suspense than romance, this would be a good book for you, but I really love the romance piece of romantic suspense novels. But with all that said, I really did enjoy Aftermath and looked forward to reading it every day. So, it's still 5 stars for me.

If ever you wanted a prime example as to why Terri Blackstock is such a popular name in Christian suspense, Aftermath is truly a prime example. The story quite literally starts off with a bang, and doesn't let up right through to the end! The characters are written so well that you cannot help but to be drawn into their lives, and as more and more twists are revealed... well, without giving anything away, let's just say that this is certainly one that will absolutely keep you guessing and wondering who you can trust! There was a bit of romance, and while I admit that the romance fan in me actually would have loved to have seen a lot more of it, it was actually quite subtle... which is a plus for those who enjoy some suspense without it! Overall, this was a fantastic read and one that fans of Christian suspense are sure to want to add to their TBR!

**I received a complimentary copy of this book for consideration. All thoughts are my own.

I had no idea what to expect going into this one, and I refused to read the synopsis before diving in. And honestly, I might do this for all of my books now because it truly paid off!

This book was both tragic and insightful. At one point while reading it, my husband tried to talk to me about something political, to which I said “I can’t handle the depressing world right now; please let me return to the explosions and death in my book.”

There were a few parts that didn’t 100% work for me (one of which was the religious entity, just as a personal preference, but I know it could be a favored genre for many, too!). Another part was the lack of help and explanation for what was clearly a mental health breakdown at one point in the novel, that was partially written off as a severe allergic reaction — something about that didn’t feel quite right. Otherwise, I enjoyed following the mystery of this novel, trying to understand who framed one of the main characters for the bombing (I guessed who!), and just what would happen between some of the characters before the ending came around. It was a great read, and one I finished within a day.

emotional hopeful tense fast-paced
challenging emotional inspiring tense medium-paced
dark emotional mysterious sad tense medium-paced

The overall story wasn’t bad but there was so much religion in the book, and then the end didn’t update anything that happened to the Taylor girl at the end.
adventurous dark mysterious fast-paced

I would love to see this as a movie.
