This was an utterly brutal installment to the Children of Blood and Bone series. I enjoyed the direction it took after the magic returned to the kingdom, and how complex all the characters' motivations have become. ZĂ©lie loathes Inan after he caused her father's death, but finds herself still inextricably tied to him. Amari is rejected by the other maji but desperately wants to help them win Orisha back. Inan never knows whether to follow what he ultimately knows is right, or his duty to the crown.

Unfortunately, all of this internal conflict leads the trio to make some incredibly misguided decisions and my sympathies wavered with all of them at some point. also found similar patterns emerging through the book, where a plan would form and be shot down at the last devastating minute, right up to the end.

I did enjoy the final twist in the tale and l'm intrigued to see where the next book will take the story. But it started to feel a little repetitive, despite such a clever premise.

This is an amazing read, and now I shall wait for the third book.

This book hits the ground running. There is so much going on when reading. The drama, betrayals, and the fights this book has and even the series as a whole so far is just ahh. I love every moment of it. The plot carries on from the first book along with the character growth, which is just perfect.

I cannot wait for the third book. I highly highly recommend reading this series.

This is fundamentally a war novel and, like many middle books in a fantasy trilogy, has neither the fun of introducing a new world and characters, nor the satisfaction of a conclusion. All three of the protagonists were incredibly frustrating, though there were some great supporting characters. That said, I need the final book ASAP!

Overall I enjoyed it but watching Amari make the wrong choice at every possible moment was so frustrating.

This book was absolutely amazing. I didn't know how Tomi Adeyemi would improve on the first book's perfection, but she did. This book was everything.
