This is the kind of book that makes me incredibly grateful for my sheltered, loving childhood. I'm not sure how anyone survives a childhood like that without feeling bitter and resentful. This was a book I could not put down.

Growing up in the desert, I related to some of her experiences there (though just the relatively normal ones) and I marveled throughout at her resilience, resourcefulness, compassion and forgiveness. This was an unforgettable read!

Unbelievable and heart breaking. As a child of narcissistic parents, I never knew I had it so good.

Very sad, not at all an uplifting story. Obviously lots of parallels with Westover's Educating but some key differences as well.
