thoughts while reading

p31: a constellation of four freckles 😂 girl needs more
p48: intriguing
p92: wait who’s gonna turn the carousel off???
p256: after much debate over the last 150 pages, i’ve decided that all foreshadowing points to
them being in a coma together. leo just flashed back into the real world for a second and that’s why he glitched
p332:
SHE REMEMBERS

Some SPOILERS ahead!
Yes. Yes. Yes.
Go read it.
It's so emersive that I've finished it in one day... Great for my recent reading slump.

This is definitely one of the best books that've read this year. I love the way contemporary romance, sci-fi and fantasy elements mix in this wonderful novel. The characters are complex and very likable. The twist... Amazing. It wasn't perfectly clear what was about to happen but you could still predict it. The character arcs are nicely built up and even though Leo and Hannah are instantly attracted to each other there is a slow build-up in their relationship which makes it believable.
For me, those small moments are significant for this story to work:
1. Hannah asking Leo if he was okay made my heart burst into a freaking rainbow
2. Leo telling Hannah to make sure she does what she wants to do every now and then melted my brain
3. Hannah letting her hair down
4. Leo breaking down on stage and later at the party
5. Basically anytime they were laughing together (the car, by the creek etc.)

The book is not by all means perfect but for some reason it works wonders for me. I would definitely recommend.

The concept had more promise than the delivery. I generally like YA but as another reviewer pointed out, this felt more like entry-level fanfiction than a novel. The bouncing between perspectives wasn't necessary. Leo felt like a caricature, though I found Hannah relatable, and the love story between the two made sense but didn't intrigue me. I wish the author had spent more words on the sci fi/mystery/fantasy and crafting more of a connection between the sci fi/magical elements and the reality of the story. A fast read, and for people who love fanfiction it might be a great fit.
