I loved the premise of the novel starting with unexpected mercy from an enemy, and all the exploration we see of the different cultures and how their often very-different perspectives lead the characters to learn and grow from each other. The underlying plot was interesting but I was mostly engaged by watching these characters interact and learning about how Ryo understands the world, this "enemy" people/culture, and himself and what he believes. The worldbuilding and growing to understand both the winter country and summer country was also interesting!

Really enjoyed to read a story about a developing relationship without sex and romance. the characters, story, society all made this a gripping story. Very glad I came upon this series, which I'll definitely read more of.
