Uhhh am I stupid or was this book completely pointless. I don't understand the ending??? I was expecting something completely different. I don't know if I want to hate the doctors/scientists for mining the students or if it's scientific and miraculous. I am SOOO not into science and test tube babies kind of things where scientists create things and then feel like they own the living beings they made... This reminds me of The Island. Ya.. I'm kind of annoyed at this book. Meh. At least the writing was decent.
What was the point of Linus or Burnham? There was no real conclusion to this book and that's what makes me dislike it so much.

I struggled to get through this book. Did it really need to be so long? No, no it didn't.

Trope filled YA dystopia but I really liked the concept and I did like that the ending was not a happy one. Of course of course I will read the next few :)

I was excited to read this book for one of my book clubs. I've read a lot of non-fiction and it's been an especially long time since I have read a decent science fiction. Decent works for The Vault of Dreamers.
In this book a bunch of artsy teenagers go to this school called "The Forge", where they are taped as a reality TV show for 12 hours. Then they take some meds and sleep for 12 hours. The main character, Rosie, finds out something else is happening beneath the surface of the school. Or is it something underneath the surface of Rosie's brain.
I feel like I have read this book a thousand times. Young adult dystopia school with everyone in the system. It's just over kill.
I enjoyed the differences, but I don't feel like it was enough to separate it as a book or series. I am actually having a hard time thinking about differences. Dreams would be the big difference I guess.
I don't know, maybe this book just wasn't for me.

Rosie Sinclair knows she's fortunate to be at the Forge School, which offers opportunities for young artists. More than anything, Rosie wants to break away from her family's life in an old boxcar in Doli, Arizona, and become a filmmaker. She lives in Doli with her mom, stepfather, and sister Dubbs.Being a student at Forge is the only way she can see to reach that goal.

But there's a catch. Forge is part of a popular reality show, known as "The Forge Show," and first-year students get to stay there only if they can manage to be among the 50 who are most popular with the viewers. All over the school, boards are posted showing the students "blip ranks." These are updated, letting the students know how popular they are at any given moment. Rosie has had trouble getting her ratings up, but just as she's certain she's about to be cut, a mysterious young man named Linus offers her some help.

What Rosie doesn't know is that the struggle to stay at Forge is just the beginning of her troubles. Something much darker and more dangerous is going on, something that's out of range of the cameras but is nonetheless frighteningly real. When Rosie seems to get more of an idea of this mysterious secret at the school and starts videotaping possible leads, Rosie suspects an adult of removing her camera from her bed while she was sleeping and tampering with it; and we find out that Linus, as a young boy, was the victim of a photographer who took inappropriate pictures of kids.
Rosie is guided and inspired by an "inner voice" with whom she starts to have regular conversations with. This voice soon makes decisions and gives ideas to Rosie This is the thing that gives her courage when all hope seems lost.

A reality show in school? I'm worried enough about my grades now without having to worry about what countless, unamed people over the interweb think of me. Although being a teenager, we tend to think that everyone's watching us anyway. This just kind of brings it to life!

keypoints:
• the protag is called rosie
• she's a filmaker
• there are camera's everywhere in the school cause it's basically reality tv
• there are 100 students and 50 of them are going to be expelled (for the thrills)
• students take a pill to sleep for 12 hours a night
• she stays awake one night and see's them doing something to a girl while everyone's asleep
that wasn't a spoiler btw, it happens in the first chapter
• she's creeped out that people are doing things to them in their sleep and wants to investigate
• linus is her boyfriend, kind of?

I've put off writing this review (something I almost never do) because I'm really not sure what to say about this one. The ending really threw me for a loop and left me unsure of how to review this one. But here it goes:

The story takes place at the Forge school, which is a weird hybrid of fancy art school and crazy reality tv show. There are cameras everywhere recording each of the students and people can tune in online to watch their favourites. Students are all ranked based on the number of people watching their feed and their family get some ad revenue from their pages. To make things even crazier, they let in 100 first year students for the first two weeks, then cut half of them.

This is where we meet Rosie, our heroine. She's a film student fighting to make it into the top 50 and stay at the Forge school, but she's not doing so great. It was pretty easy to feel for Rosie, since she has it pretty tough at home. Her mom seems nice enough, but works a lot. Her step-dad is a dick and is also unemployed (technically on strike, but it's been over a year), so money is pretty tight. She also has a little sister named Dubbs, who she clearly loves a lot. Rosie has been placed on a crappy track at school that has her bound for, at best, a dead-end job. So clearly the opportunity at Forge is huge for her.

Another weird thing about the Forge school is that all students are forced to sleep 12 hours per day. They claim it boosts creativity. Rosie is a bit of a rebel and starts skipping her sleeping pill and wandering around at night. She sees some crazy stuff, but is in a bit of a tough spot, since Forge is her only chance out of a dead-end life back home.

There's also a boy (of course). I was a bit worried for a bit that a love triangle was being set up, but thankfully that was not the case. Linus seems like a pretty nice guy overall, although he occasionally gets pissed at Rosie and I totally understand. While he's not my newest book boyfriend, I could definitely understand why Rosie liked him.

But the ending! I still have no clue what happened. Like, I was mostly following until the very last page and then- I don't know. I think it's meant to be like that, but I don't even know. I guess it's enough to make me want to read the next book when it comes out, but a fair warning to anyone who can't handle endings like that.

Overall, I enjoyed The Vault of Dreamers for the most part, but the ending still has me majorly confused.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the copy on exchange for my honest review.

I remember when this book first came out and everyone seemed to be raving about it. Honestly, I wasn’t that interested in it. It wasn’t at my local bookstore or library, and I wasn’t interested enough to buy the ebook or order a copy. But now the sequel is out and everybody is raving about it all over again, so when I saw it as Read Now on NetGalley I thought I would give it a chance.

I’m not sure how I feel about this book and I don’t think that thinking about it any longer will help. I really enjoyed the beginning of the book. Getting introduced to this new world, even though it took awhile for all of the common stuff to be introduced. I liked the one character named Burnham. He was smart, and kind, and funny. That’s kind of where the good things end.

I didn’t really like Rosie. I get that she was 15 but all of the clues were laid out in front of her in plain sight and she couldn’t figure it out. I had most of the mystery figured out by 50% mark so it was pretty boring reading about Rosie trying to figure out the mystery.

The ending was very weird. Everything seemed to happen at a very fast pace with writing that seemed very different then the rest of the book. I find it hard to explain my feelings about this book. It was good but I didn’t really like it if that makes sense? I guess I was bored.

Also, I hated how every time a colour was mentioned it was the colour red. That was very annoying.

I debated on giving this a 3 or 4. I finally ended up giving it a four because it was interesting and kept my attention. I am just not too keen on the ending of the book. It does make me wonder if there is more to the story. It was just kind of an odd ending if there isn't going to be sequel.
