What a fantastic conclusion to a marvelous story. What was once a confusing story telling device, jumping between multiple characters, locations, timelines, ultimately to weave together so carefully in the end. Nothing felt inevitable or for certain. And even if the story was following tropes, the updated path, the unique aspects that made this path stand out from "the norm," really made this story resonate with me.

Can not recommend this enough, this story of war, conflict, betrayal, love, sacrifice, and community!

A very satisfying conclusion to the trilogy, really delivering on the thematic underpinnings of justified anger, but owning (and being held accountable for) the damage done in its name; of sacrifice and power; of choice and what is worth living and dying for. Occasionally I felt thrown off balance by the pacing decisions - the things that were rushed past in the first and to some extent also the last parts of the book - but the things that were lingered upon were so deeply excellent and satisfying that I don't really mind.

Malini and Priya have found themselves on opposite sides of the war. Left reeling from Priya’s betrayal, Malini is determined not to show weakness, and to get her revenge on the woman she loved. Priya, meanwhile, is focused on her people, and the ancient gods rising from their sacred waters. She has been left alone, abandoned by the empty Bhumika, and haunted by her deceased loved ones, all whose skins now house the flower gods of old. But as these gods demand she empty more and more of herself to make room for the leader of their pantheon, Priya realizes that her gods don’t care for her people or her nation, and are more interested in shaping the world to suit them, rather than protect the people who already live there. As the gods tighten their grip on her people, Priya must once again reach out to Malini for help, and pray that it’s not too late to fix the damage to their world--and to their love.

I found it very interested to see three paths walked by the three leading ladies. Bhumika had been fully emptied, but holding knowledge of how to defeat the rising yaksa, and knowing how important it is to keep them from returning, despite how she was raised to worship them. It was really sweet how she remembered giving birth, and how she longed for her child--even if she didn’t fully remember her. Malini and Priya dreaming of each other, Malini trying to kill Priya, and Priya slowly reasoning with her. It was a slow plot, filled with politics and religious beliefs, but it was oh so good! It was a brilliant end to an epic trilogy.
