I am such a sucker for a sappy, cheesy, slow burn romance and I really think this did it for me. I also love the addition of the lighthearted banter between characters. It really helped build a bond between character & character as well as character & reader.
I think what brought this down for me a bit was the sometimes Wattpad-y writing style. I think some people can make it work when there’s a set expectation for it, but I expected a little bit more from the writing, so it came off slightly odd. Though, I could generally understand what she was going for when it came down to it. Very excited to get my hands on the second book!

Assistant to the Villain is the breath of fresh air you didn’t know you needed in romantasy. If you love this genre, but need a break from the intensity and drama, this is it. While the writing is lighthearted and funny, Hannah Nicole Maehrer still creates a compelling story with great plot, lovable characters, found family, and slow burn romance. I did ebook and audiobook, and loved both, but with a strong preference for the audiobook - the best narration!
