One of my favorite books, intriguing, well written with great depth in history. Eco's sophisticated writing test your patience at the beginning, but keep going you will love it and lean a lot in the way

I love particularly the way eco gets into the mind of how someone from this time and place would experience these events and think about the world - the use of ekphrasis & the rhetorical and linguistic similarities to works from antiquity lend an authenticity to the work, as that really is how a medieval monk would interact with and describe things since they saw the world through those books and works! And then to combine that excellent and thoughtful imagining of another place and time and people so distant with a well paced and gripping mystery, a pretty modern genre and type …. Masterful work
Questo lungo romanzo non parla solo di misteri e delitti, ma ci immerge completamente nell’atmosfera medievale (con una magistrale accuratezza nei dettagli), con temi quali la religione e il peccato, la filosofia, l’amore, le lingue e un pizzico di scienza. Chiunque abbia la pazienza e il coraggio di superare lo scoglio delle prime 100/120 pagine, non può fare a meno di continuare lo splendido romanzo.
Bellissimo il fatto che il titolo non celi nulla della misteriosa trama.
Eco è stato un maestro per noi come lo è stato Guglielmo per Adso, e come Adso il lettore può trarre le sue considerazioni in maniera autonoma. Leggendo questo testo ci si sente liberi di riflettere ma allo stesso tempo si rimane incatenati alle pagine e ci sentiamo protagonisti della storia, non semplici osservatori, a volte persino complici.
Una lettura da fare con calma e curiosità per assimilare al meglio quello che Eco ha voluto scrivere per noi.

Estuvo muy entretenido e interesante pero...
Si vas a adentrarte a este libro, debes estar consciente de que habrán demasiados datos y sucesos ocurridos durante la una época muy antigua, (alrededor de la inquisición parece) además de referencias a sacerdotes, papas y locaciones de ese entonces, por ende, te perderás de muchas de esas referencias a menos que tengas un amplio conocimiento del tema. Es como si estuvieras dentro de una conversación (muy interesante) en la cual no estás en contexto.
A pesar de eso, los asesinatos y cómo Guillermo resuelve el enigma en el cuál se ve envuelta la abadía es inmensamente brillantey bien hilado. Hay conversaciones y reflexiones muy buenas sobre la espiritualidad, el amor como obsesión, la lujuría y el papel de la Iglesia con sumo poder.

that was fun! took me a while to Really get into it but then it was so hard to put down..... i also enjoyed the author's postscript and reading about the process, which might mean i like the idea of this more than the execution, perhaps. favourite sentence by farrr:
"And he answered that it is certainly human to make mistakes, but there are some human beings who make more than others, and they are called fools, and he was one of them, and he wondered whether it was worth the effort to study in Paris and Oxford if one was then incapable of thinking that manuscripts are also bound in groups, a fact even novices know, except stupid ones like me, and a pair of clowns like the two of us would be a great success at fairs, and that was what we should do instead of trying to solve mysteries, especially when we were up against people far more clever than we."
