Historically this isn't my favorite genre. I liked that Caleb and Sarah were not too young and that this story was about an existing marriage going through a rough patch. I liked this one more than I thought I would.

i have very mixed feelings about this book. mainly with Sarah as a character. she felt so different from the person we knew in out on a limb and in a bad way. i liked the exploration and her internal struggle with feeling too dependent on Caleb but my god was she so annoying and horrible to him at times! For more than half of the book she was so jealous of him for being himself while also achieving his success and angry at him for being supportive. while i can see her point about wanting to stand on her own and have something for herself, she never actively pursued it and even in the end she became the writer she always wanted but she didn’t do that on her own either! Both characters definitely had their flaws and i did like how that was showcased. However, you give me a main character who is “determined” to stand on her own two feet but then quite literally never have said character do anything by themselves the entire book. i really wish we could have seen Sarah actually be okay as an individual and maybe even just be self sufficient on the hiking trip but instead we got her asking Caleb to drag her to the tent because she can’t walk as if he also wasn’t hiking with her only in the next chapter to admit you resent him a little for being supportive during some of the most difficult times of your life…💀 wrap it up girl.

I fell in love with Sarah and Caleb when we met them in Out on a Limb so I was excited to get more of their story. I liked that this book focused on a married couple fighting to reconnect – it’s not something we see a lot in romance novels.

That said, I was a little bummed at first to see them struggling after seeming like such a solid couple when they supported their best friends in book 1. Sarah frustrated me at first, but the more we learned about her, especially though the flashbacks with her mom the more I understood her. The scenes with her mom while heartbreaking were also powerful and added depth to the story.

As the story progressed, I loved watching Sarah and Caleb not just learn to love each other, but also start to love themselves again. This wasn’t just a story about rekindling romantic love – it was about the bond between mother and daughter, the important of having friends who show up when it matters, and learning to choose yourself without walking away from the people you love.

This book was emotional and funny. It was inspiring, made you hopeful and made you think of where you are now and what you want out of your future too. I loved the relationship Sarah had with her mother and how is went throughout the book and into the future. It was great to get more of Win and see their friendship/sisterhood continue to grow and strengthen. I loved Caleb and how he was there for Sarah throughout it all and wanted their love and relationship to continue. It was great to see them change together and continue to love and support one another.
