I feel so gross after finishing this book. Infidelity, I can read about, but sex with your stepson, sex with your stepbrother, disgusting.

Interesting learning about being a pathological narcissist. Ugh, making your child call you Mrs. Martin.

There are many twists in this book, but it ties up in a neat bow in the end.

The pace of this was slower than I like. But this was truly a psychological thriller and I did not see the end coming which I always love. I’m going to definitely check out some of the other books this author has wrote.

ARC provided by NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

Holy crap. What a freaking mess. I loved this book, it completely confused the shit out of me and I really did not expect that ending, let alone really predict anything because this whole family is completely unreliable.

At times, it felt like the pacing was a little slow around the middle portion of the book, although that didn't really bother me. I did get kind of impatient when Abby kept talking about Narcissistic Personality Disorder in great detail. WE GET IT. You're the psychologist, you're trying to educate us, but shit. Leave it to one page, not half the book. (That's an exaggeration...It still bothered me though.)

But don't let that stop you from reading this book. It's so different than most of the psychological thrillers I've read lately. It's twisty, crazy, unpredictable, and it'll make you mad. The family dynamic that centers around Emma and her mother is insane. I couldn't believe some of the drama that went down in that house.

I don't have anything spectacular to say in this review without giving something away. Read this book. It's unpredictable, dramatic, and an easy read. You wont want to put it down (except when Dr. Winters is educating us on Narcissistic Personality Disorder.)

Thank you again to NetGalley and the publisher. I'm seeing everyone raving about Wendy Walker's former books, and now I'm going to have to check them out. This one impressed me.

"One night three years ago, the Tanner sisters disappeared: fifteen-year-old Cass and seventeen-year-old Emma. Three years later, Cass returns, without her sister Emma. Her story is one of kidnapping and betrayal, of a mysterious island where the two were held. But to forensic psychiatrist Dr. Abby Winter, something doesn't add up. Looking deep within this dysfunctional family Dr. Winter uncovers a life where boundaries were violated and a narcissistic parent held sway. And where one sister's return might just be the beginning of the crime." (From Amazon)

Sorry, I had to use the synopsis given, as I couldn't think of how to describe this one. I enjoyed Walker's last books was excited to read this new one. It was even better than All is Not Forgotten, the psychological twisty dark story had me from the beginning. I was on edge not wanting to believe anything until the truth came out. I definitely recommend this one!

Heard of this book through Tik-Tok. I was slow moving in the middle but I really never put together what the climax/ending would be.

this was a well written, really intriguing mystery. i’ll definitely pick up the author’s other books.
