The Poisoned King by Katherine Rundell is a stunningly written adventure filled with magic, danger, and heart. The writing is lyrical and atmospheric, making it easy to get swept away in the world from the very first page.

Even without reading the first book, I was fully pulled into the story. The characters are bold, brave, and beautifully complex, and the pacing kept me hooked right through to the final chapter. Rundell has crafted a story that’s both emotional and exciting—a perfect blend for YA and teen readers alike.

As soon as I finished, I knew I had to go back and find the first book. This is definitely a series I want to own as a full collection—one I’ll revisit and recommend to anyone who loves fantasy with depth and heart.

Glad to return for the archipelago and the dragons. The story picked off where the first book left off.

I can't believe it's been almost two whole years since I first visited the Archipelago! Oh, how I missed it.
The Poisoned King is an incredibly fast-paced installment (I read it in one day) that introduces a ton of new creatures and characters, while also reuniting us with some favorites.
Anya, a young princess bent on revenge, is an especially fiery delight; her steadfastness and fierce determination are what really drives the story forward.
The illustrations throughout the book are also beautifully done and add another layer of magic to this charmingly daring tale

gorgeous writing, gorgeous illustrations…a timelessness to a tale of revenge in a world of fascinating mythological creatures. A strong second book in what I anticipate will be a memorable series for many.

My only wish for what it didn’t have was more from Christopher’s POV, as he seems more a narrative device than a true character in this one…
