  • This was my first book by Harlan Coben, I had always seen his books around, he has a bunch of series adaptations on Netflix, and I just always wanted to read something by one or the biggest thriller authors. Unfortunately, I thought this was pretty average and forgettable. Had I not written my thoughts about it on my phone, I wouldn’t even know how to review this because I remember nothing.

  • While I was reading this, I thought that the synopsis was misleading because the book is a lot more complex and involves a lot more than just parents spying on their child, but that’s because the synopsis on this edition is a shorter one. The one on goodreads sums it up more accurately imo.

  • I mainly picked this up for the vibe, there’s just something about those late 2000s - early 2010s thrillers that I love and this reminded of me of shows like Pretty Little Liars.

  • I got overwhelmed by the amount of characters and POVs there were. New characters were constantly added, without really being introduced and we’re just following like 8-10 people all at once, some of which were similar so it got confusing.

  • There were multiple subplots and side characters that didn’t make sense but based on some reviews i’ve seen, it seems like the characters are from other books by Harlan Coben and I guess it would make sense if I had read them.

  • Also, this book was pretty disturbing. I read this shortly after a certain horrific event at a school happened and there were mentions of a kid planning certain activities that disturbed me quite a bit.

  • I almost rated this a 2 but the ending is what saved it for me. The way that everything was connected and the little twists at the end definitely surprised me, but they’re nothing crazy.

  • Overall, this was an okay read, not the type of book I’d ever re-read or recommend as a top choice. I’ll probably still read “The Woods” by the same author because I already have it but it’s not one I’ll be reaching for soon.
