This should be titled "How to Let Your Pride Enslave You." When I first followed Goggins, I really was motivated and he did cause me to look at some things differently. But it was all short lived and much couldn't be taken into a real life where I have real responsibility.
Could I push myself harder? Absolutely. But what if I didnt? Why is it the end of the world if I don't run on broken bones and in broken shoes?
To "push yourself" so hard that everyone in your life has to constantly watch out for you because you may be peeing blood and have poop all over you from "pushing yourself." Where you would die if people didn't survail you like a clumsy toddler?
Is goggins in control? Because someone who cannot handle doing anything but self harm/self mutilation in the name of "callousing your mind" sounds very out of control. Because our society rewards people for acting like machines, goggins exercise related self harm is seen as admirable. That's pretty sad. How in control of yourself are you if you completely ignore all warning signs your body gives you in order to reach an imaginary goal?
"Cant Hurt Me" well yeah, cause youre constantly doing it yourself. I don't understand why callousing your mind can't happen in moderation? I mean if your workout routine is 12 hours long, who is taking care of everything else that needs to happen day to day?
Why does turning off all emotion=good? I mean thats like a really bad thing. Like a severe trauma response. Which he needs therapy for, not money to tell others to pursue this path. He seems immature and stunted. The only control he has is over the pain he inflicts on his body. He has failed relationships, talks poorly of everyone in his past, and has an enormous ego (i dont ever follow anyone, but i rely on views and oh yeah use my hashtag...) and he makes everyone around him stay on high alert for whenever he has another emergency.
This isn't a book on how to overcome. This is a book on how a traumatized person has turned their self harm and self imposed isolation into a clever tail to spin and make a buck off it. Telling people that being soft is a bad thing is bogus. Being soft is needed just as much as being hard. His extremism and black and white thinking is again... trauma.
Poor goggins. I hope he gets the therapy he so desperately needs.

I don't know why people like this book so much, Some of the initial chapters were nice, but otherwise it's just a man repeating the same whole things again and again

Can't Hurt Me: Master Your Mind and Defy the Odds by David Goggins
While the methods Mr. Goggins incorporates are very extreme to the average person, the message he shares is truly transformational. One of the most inspiring books I have ever read.
Recommended for those who aren’t afraid to look within themselves for the greater untapped potential we all possess.
For this reason, I give the book 5 stars and encourage others to be fully inspired.

Good messages. Not a fan of the language (mostly the sexism), or lack of compassion is his messages. He speaks very briefly towards a more compassionate approach in the final 2 chapters, but Goggins primary motto appears to “suck it up buttercup”.
I got about three chapters in and decided not to finish. I really admire Goggins’ mental and physical toughness and the way he pushed himself to achieve so much. At the same time, it felt like a lot of that came at the cost of his family life, which was tough to read. I also found the way he spoke to himself pretty harsh, it left me feeling more sympathy than motivation. By then, I felt like I had the overall picture of his journey without needing to read further.
