Damn it, John Green. You've been making me cry since I was a teenager and you've done it again. Coming back to his writing for the first time in years felt like coming home. Almost everything in this book spoke directly to me, to my heart, my soul, my poor tired brain. I don't have OCD but I relate so much to what he writes about his brain and anxieties and how he views the world through that lens and wants to change that. This filled my soul and reminded me what I love about this sad, messed up, lovely world.

This book made me fall in love with humanity and filled me with hope and wonder, even as he spoke about the not so pretty relationship humans have with the world. For that alone, five stars.
debated on giving this one 4 stars, but felt 5 was more appropriate purely for the entertainment this book gave me.
each essay touched on the way we, as humans are profoundly & permanently shaping our world. how we are the most powerful beings on the planet, but also at the mercy of life’s whims. i thought green’s musings were insightful, hopeful, & relatable. it was incredibly validating to hear my own worst fears about living on this planet described as someone else’s.
i learned so many useful & just plain interesting facts in this book that i’ve already brought it up in multiple conversations with friends & family (against their will, that is).
this book felt like a hug from a friend.
“i was thinking about the people i used to be, and how they fought & scrapped & survived for moments like this one.”

This was easily one of the best books I've ever read. The ability Green has to capture the entirety of the love, pain, triumph, and resilience of humankind though seemingly mundane occurences is captivating. Reading this allowed me to feel less alone in the pain of being human but also increased my awareness and gratitude for the small things that make life, life (and not in a savior complexy way at all which pushes my buttons in all the wrong ways). Anyone and everyone should read this book; I guarantee it has something for everyone at every stage in life.

My first audiobook! I was a little hesitant going in, but I think listening to this book is the best way to enjoy it, especially given that John Green himself narrates it. This book made me laugh and cry and smile and feel all the things in between. I think my favorite chapter was Harvey. Definitely a bit of a slower listen but overall I still very much enjoyed this. I give The Anthropocene Reviewed 4.5 stars.
