Remarkable - seeing world events play out over the course of 30 years of a person’s life would have been interesting regardless, but through the eyes and words of Alan Rickman, it was fascinating.

Lots of spoilers, so wait until you've read the series. This is also NOT a biography. It's literally Alan Rickman's diaries/calendars published into a book. It wasn't what I was expecting, but it was fascinating getting a glimpse into Mr. Rickman's life. What an amazing actor he was and his legacy will live on forever.

It feels really odd to rate this as it literally means rating a person’s life and thoughts. So this REALLY is only for my stats, nothing else!
I wanted this to be a personal glimpse into what must have been a very interesting life. For all intents and purposes, it is that, but it's more like reading someone's appointment book as opposed to a personal diary. Sadly, without the spark that Alan Rickman himself undoubtedly would have given this had it been published when he was still with us, I just found it lacking. I ended up returning it. ☹️
I struggled to give this audiobook a rating, so I've decided not to. I love a lot of the movies Alan Rickman was in and was hoping it would have had more... stories of his times with his friends and family and their adventures. I realize he didn't get to release the diaries the way he probably would have done them, and it might be better to read them in physical form versus the audiobook as I did. It might be less confusing of a journey.
Ik vind het raar om een dagboek een rating te geven, gezien ieder leven anders is. Bij het lezen van dit dagboek had ik een dubbel gevoel. Enerzijds voelde het alsof ik hem kende, maar anderzijds was het niet bekend of hij dit überhaupt wilde publiceren. Het voelde daarom een beetje als een inbreuk op de privacy. Desondanks was het mooi om te lezen hoe zijn leven eruit zag; veel reizen, erg kritisch op zijn werk maar ook op die van anderen. Hij was wel iemand die altijd klaar stond voor de mensen om wie hij gaf.

I can’t really rate something that was never meant to be read by other people. So the five is just because I love him but this book isn’t for everyone. He’s fairly critical and brutally honest with his opinion when it comes to movies/theater/actors/authors/directors/politicians/himself etc. But also very generous with praise and I think tried to find something good even in things that weren’t his cup of tea. Clearly devoted to his friends and partner.
