I really wanted to read this but I’m struggling so much with the format they’ve chosen to publish it in, maybe I’ll pick it up another time…

The short diary entries are not my thing. There were a lot of British references and entertainment industry people that I didn’t care about.

I was tempted into listening to this by some snippets in Sat morning newspaper. I am fascinated by whole process of editing - did Alan want it published / expect for it to be published? How much is cut out. It starts in early 90s when I was born so is a very familiar timeline of politics, disasters, celebrities etc. He is fascinating. He is clever. He talks a lot about other's funerals and his own health. Im not sure if this is linked to editing. I was terribly sad to hear his medical appointments clustering and actually pancreas not prostate at the end. I'm now trying to watch all Alan's films - not just Harry Potter/ Love Actually. Truly Madly Deeply is my favourite so far but Winter Guest, The Butler, Alice through the looking glass, Die Hard all well worth watching too. Incredible man. The audiobook was well read although, of course, sadly had to imagine it in Alan's own voice.

This took me awhile to get through and I just kept wondering if he wanted this published? Full of snark and wit and sharp commentary. But difficult to get through if you’re not familiar with his work outside Harry Potter and sense and sensibility like uh…me lol. An interesting peek behind the curtain into acting and directing. The politics of that glittery glitzy world. Loved the friendships he had with many people
