The setup was good, and had potential, but it was more gory than actually scary.

The whole theme park location was also under-used. It was pretty disappointing that the environment didn’t become a character of its own and instead became just a backdrop to drape all the characters over.

The characters ended up being the most interesting part of the book.

The way the book just ended was…disappointing. Some carnage might have been nice to see after all that setup.

some of the characters were a little flat, but the development was good. the setting was really cool and the author is a really good writer who uses really descriptive language. i was on the edge of my seat the whole time and got a little scared! it was my favourite type of horror, the one where it builds up and you don't know what's coming until the end.

This book had a ton of promise, but it didn't quite get there. A Hunger Games vibe, but with people in their 20s (who often read like most YA characters unfortunately). I think it was too rushed in certain places, and it had a lot of characters to get to know at first. I also prefer books with endings that are more wrapped up. Still, with some work this could have been really good, and I think it'd make a good one season show.

This is a sparse book that gets to the exciting/horrifying plot points fairly quickly. I liked the meta commentary and appreciated the deep emotional beats. Mack’s characterization is by far the most thorough. The other characters pale in comparison, which hindered my emotional investment. Overall it was an effective slasher with a fun nod to a Greek myth.
